To respond to the recent COVID-19 pandemic, we are required to make decisions from a broader perspective with a bird’s-eye view of the situation from various aspects relating to economy, mentality, politics, and information, instead of focusing only on the infectious disease itself. It is especially necessary to strike a balance between infectious disease control measures and socioeconomic activities. In reality, however, COVID-19 has imposed serious impacts on various aspects such as infectious disease control measures, socioeconomic activities, mental health measures, and the power balance at state level, and countermeasures are being discussed separately for each topic. Therefore, it is currently difficult to establish firm countermeasures from a broader perspective with a bird’s-eye view of the impact of COVID-19.
In this symposium, to achieve the R2EC’s goal of attaining a resilient society, we will study the concept of “prediction, response, and recovery” in the era of VUCA (volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity) through the social behavior patterns shown since the outbreak of COVID-19.
