Message from President

Resilience Research and Education Promotion Consortium
President Haruo Hayashi

As disasters frequently occur and social instability increases, many unexpected situations which cannot be addressed with a conventional concept of risk management often occurs. Realizing a resilient society, consisting of the safe and secure country/communities/economies with “strength” and “flexibility”, is the utmost priority.

In order to realize a resilient society, it is necessary to develop unprecedented theories and techniques as well as to foster human resources who understand the theories, master the techniques and apply them to a real use. This cannot be realized without every effort through industry/government/academia collaboration, and can be realized only when companies, research institutions and universities collaborate with each other, making use of their own strengths.

Against this background, the University of Tsukuba and research institutions and companies in Tsukuba City and the surrounding areas have decided to cooperate with each other beyond their functions and established Resilience Research and Education Promotion Consortium on December 26th, 2017. The purpose of this Consortium is to pioneer new realms of research on risk and resilience and foster academic and global human resources, with participation of overseas institutions, as a major base of disseminating knowledge on risk and resilience.

We make every effort so that the Consortium can create a new era of the resilient society.
